A 31-year-old man handed himself over to the police on April 7 in connection with the murder of his 29-year-old
girlfriend, who was found with her throat slit, in Boksburg North.
The police believe that the killing took place between midnight and the early hours of April 4.
The boyfriend was charged with murder, kidnapping and defeating the ends of justice and appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday (April 9).
According to police spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube, the couple’s ninemonth-old baby boy was also
kidnapped after the attack on his mother.
The child was later found abandoned in front of the gate of the suspect’s mother in Centurion.
“The baby has since been reunited with his mother’s siblings,” Ramaube said.
According to police, witnesses revealed that the couple was seen arguing at a local tavern on April 3.
“It is alleged that the boyfriend assaulted his girlfriend and other witnesses intervened,” said Ramaube.
“The couple was then seen leaving the tavern and apparently went back to their home in Boksburg North.
“It is alleged that when they got home other tenants heard the woman screaming for help and shortly afterwards
everything was quiet.”
On April 4, the woman’s siblings looked for her after becoming suspicious when she didn’t answer her phone and when she was nowhere to be found.
“The siblings then went to their sister’s rented home and broke the door to gain entry.
“While searching the premises they found a white T-shirt soaked in blood inside a bucket and then noticed the
woman’s feet sticking out from under a mattress,” said Ramaube.
“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the crime scene may have been tampered with as it appears someone tried to clean up the scene.”
