Bikers ride for Cosmos Old Age Home

Cosmos Old Age Home expressed gratitude for the donation.

Harley-Davidson Gold Rand, in conjunction with H.O.G Gold Rand Chapter, recently dug deep into their pockets to put a smile on the faces of the elderly people at Cosmos Old Age Home.

About 50 bikers from the H.O.G Gold Rand Chapter rode in convoy to the home at about 10am on March 27 to donate much-needed toiletries to the residents and the cherry on the cake was each resident also received a cupcake.

According to Wanda du Plooy, H.O.G Gold Rand Chapter membership officer, they decided to organise a charity drive in support of the old-age home to circumvent the negative effects the pandemic has had on the home and the elderly.

“The Harley Owners’ Group are a fun bunch and we believe in looking after the less fortunate,” she said, explaining members dropped off basic toiletries, like toothpaste, shampoo, soap and body lotions at the Harley-Davidson Gold Rand dealership throughout March and the items were then handed over to the home. The group supports a suitable charity every two months as part of their charity drive, which has been ongoing for years. The support that we get from Harley Davidson Gold Rand is phenomenal because it enables us to help out in our community,” du Plooy said.

Cosmos Old Age Home social worker Karen Meyer expressed gratitude for the donation.

“We would like to thank the bikers for their support; our residents are so delighted. We would love to see more businesses and individuals also supporting our elderly with donations of necessities,” said Meyer.
