Watch: Boksburg North SAPS takes a stand against GBV

During the GBV awareness walk, women were encouraged to report sexual abuse-related crimes to the police.

The Boksburg North SAPS sector three officers and people from the Boksburg North SAPS Youth Crime Prevention Desk (YCPD) have sent a strong message to the perpetrators of gender-based violence.

They held an awareness walk against gender-based violence through the streets of Boksburg North, particularly First and Second Streets, on March 27.

Their message was direct, “Enough is enough: gender-based violence must fall”.

Boksburg North SAPS sector three officers, the Boksburg North SAPS Youth Crime Prevention Desk coordinator of the station’s Social Crime, Sgt Phina Matweja, and committee members of ward 22 walked through the streets of Boksburg North on March 27, sending strong messages against perpetrators of gender-based violence.

The walk was supported by the station’s social crime coordinator, Sgt Phina Matweja, and Ward 22 committee members.

Before taking to the streets around 10am, Lucky le Roux, the YCPD chairperson, encouraged young women to report sexual abuse-related crimes to the police so that perpetrators can be brought to book.

Escorted by a police vehicle, participants held placards with messages that read “my body is not your crime scene” and “stop gender-based violence” as they walked through the streets, attracting community members and motorists.

The group distributed gender-based violence pamphlets to residents and motorists
