Son found guilty of assaulting his mom appeals his sentence

He will again appear in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court on April 22.

The 30-year-old man who was recently sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for assaulting his mother (58) and a police officer last year is appealing his sentence.

Emmanual Mamogobo appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on March 18 to appeal his sentence.
The matter was postponed to April 22.

Mamogobo was sentenced to two years’ direct imprisonment on February 26 after he was found guilty of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm to his mother in January last year and guilty of assault on a police officer while resisting arrest.

The mother opened a case of assault GBH against her son at the Reiger Park SAPS after he stabbed her in the forehead, following a disagreement.

According to the mother, the assault happened after she told her son he can’t cook pap because she had already started cooking rice.

Mamogobo argued with his mother, swore at her and said at the end of the month she wouldn’t get her rent money from tenants because he was going to take it. He then took out a knife and stabbed his mother in the forehead.

She was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.

In February, when police officers went to arrest him, Mamogobo resisted arrest and attacked a police officer.
