How to lodge a complaint/compliment at Tambo Memorial

To lodge a complaint with the hospital, you can phone the hospital on 011 898 8000 or send an email to alta.nel@gauteng.gov.za and johanna.storm2@gauteng.gov.za.

Following an article published by the Advertiser two weeks ago titled “Family blames hospital’s negligence on son’s death” the Advertiser’s Facebook page was “inundated” with complaints from the community regarding the apparent poor service at the hospital.

The story was about the Fincham family, of Farrar Park, who accused Tambo Memorial Hospital of negligence following the death of their son, Shannon Fincham.

The readers took to the Advertiser’s Facebook page to express their views.

Complaints
Ann Strydom: “Tambo Memorial is useless. A friend of mine went there every week after a spider bit her. She did not receive the correct treatment and her leg was amputated. Disgusting place.”
Motshabi Mosikatsana: “I hope somebody will be held responsible. This is not the first complaint about that horrible hospital with its horrible staff.”
Carl Streso: “Okay, how many of the staff at THM are qualified? I was there. They can steal your food and stuff that was brought in by your family.”
Chanté Ungerer: “This is really not a surprise. That hospital is disgusting, such a disgrace. Three of my family members died at that hospital in the exact same ward. I’m sure if they were in private hospitals they would have survived. The claims about this hospital are all true. Something really needs to be done about it.”
Nadine Fray: “These nurses give the rest of the healthcare workers a bad name. So many patients and families have complained about the treatment in this specific hospital, but it seems to fall on deaf ears. Don’t become a caregiver if your heart is not to help people heal.”

Compliments
Jolana Botha: “Tambo memorial is great. I’m a patient there for 11years now. They saved my life when I nearly died.”
Karin Hattingh: “Someone I know received excellent service at Tambo when he was very ill with Covid. In fact, they saved his life.”
Colleen Ekron Smit: “OR Tambo saved my three-year-old child’s and her brother’s, Wesley Reichert, lives. I have high respect for my Wesley and OR Tambo.”

How to lodge a complaint, compliment or suggestion at Tambo Memorial Hospital
The CEO of Tambo Memorial Hospital, Zenzo Ndabula, has urged the community to bring to their attention any complaint, compliment or suggestion when they are not satisfied with the service received at the hospital.
“The hospital strives to provide quality healthcare services to all patients using the facility. All people using our facility are encouraged to bring to our attention any complaint, compliment or suggestion before leaving the hospital or in less than six months of the incident having taken place,” Ndabula said.

The complaint, compliment or suggestion should be registered at the point of service ideally on the same day or before leaving the hospital.

“All functional units at any time and on any day have an area manager or a shift leader who handles complaints, compliments and suggestions. All functional units also have forms for complaints, compliments and suggestions where you can write down should you wish to do so. Should you not be satisfied, ask to see the senior manager on duty or ask for the forms to complain, compliment or suggest and this will be attended to. The quality assurance office will contact you to address your complaint, compliment or suggestion,” Ndabula said.

The CEO said members of the public using their services are assured of their efforts to provide quality healthcare services and of their availability to attend to complaints, compliments and suggestions.

To lodge a complaint you can phone the hospital on 011 898 8000 or send an email with complaints, compliments and suggestions to alta.nel@gauteng.gov.za and johanna.storm2@gauteng.gov.za.
