My builder and I recently went to dump some building rubble at the Rooikraal landfill site, but to my surprise, it was closed.
The workers, who were sitting under a rondavel at the front gate, told me to dump the rubble in the veld across the dumping site. I, however, didn’t think that was a good idea, especially after driving six kilometres to do the right thing.
They then told me I don’t have to come all the way out there, instead, I should go to my local dumping site, which I did with my second load (Van Dyk Park dumping site) and that was where all the fun and games started.
I was chased away by a very angry lady and was told to go and dump my building rubble in a veld somewhere, not at her dumpster.
The problem is that the main dumping sites are closed, and the smaller ones do not take any building rubble, and no one can tell you what to do.
Apparently, there is a dispute between the municipality and contractor of the main dumping sites.
