Boksburg Child Welfare grateful for playground

Duarte said during their community outreaches, tablers noticed many children's homes and schools didn’t have play areas for their children

Round Table Boksburg 17, in partnership with the Round Table Gauteng Area, recently donated a playground to the value of R10 000 to the Boksburg Child Welfare’s offices in Reiger Park.

The donation was made possible by community members and businesses that made cash donations towards the purchasing of the playground.

The funds were raised after a plea was sent out by Round Table to community members and businesses within the designated areas.

According to Jean-Claude Duarte, Round Table Boksburg 17 chairperson and project convenor, Boksburg Child Welfare’s Reiger Park office was one of three recipients of a jungle gym.

The playgrounds were sponsored by Round Table to designated places in Reiger Park, Benoni (Sonop Caravan Park) and Sandton (Juna Aurora Haven). Each playground cost R10 000.

“When we went to see what playgrounds they have at the Boksburg Child Welfare’s office in Reiger Park, they had one of those old metal ones. Not everything was working. We were more than happy to build a playground for these deserving children and this wonderful facility.

“Round Table wants the jungle gyms to be a safe place for children. The playgrounds we’re building through this project is for charities, safe houses, crèches and small communities like this one,” the chairperson said.

Vanessa Naidoo-Pillay, director of the Boksburg Child Welfare, thanked the organisation for the donation.

“We at Boksburg Child Welfare know exactly how important play is to the growth and development of our children. Not only does play support the physical development of children but also aids in healthy brain development. Boksburg Child Welfare would like to extend a huge thank you to Duarte who identified us as one of the beneficiaries for a jungle gym. We can’t wait for the children visiting our Reiger Park office to engage in problem-solving, language development, relationship building and strengthening, emotional intelligence through play with the new jungle gym. We are truly grateful to Round Table Boksburg for this donation,” Naidoo-Pillay said.
