Church donates school shoes, launches soup kitchen

The aim of the church is to see children go to school with proper and quality school shoes

A local church in Ramaphosa informal settlement, Agape Grace Ministries, has committed itself to making a difference in the lives of young children in the area.

Agape Grace Ministries donated 111 pairs of school shoes to underprivileged children, as well as launched a soup kitchen for the community, on February 27.

The beneficiaries for the school shoes were identified from local schools.

According to the senior pastor, Moses Lepele, they started this initiative in 2019 when donating seven pairs of shoes.

“In 2020, we decided to expand this initiative by donating 105 pairs after seeing a need. This year we received so much support from the public who also contributed in putting a smile on the faces of these young ones.”

Lepele said they were fortunate enough to receive a sponsor from America, who sponsored 40 pairs of shoes. The remaining shoes were donated by congregants and good Samaritans.

Holding their brand new school shoes are some of the beneficiaries identified by the church in Ramaphosa informal settlement. Seen here with the children are Past Patience and Past Moses Lepele (Agape Grace Ministeries pastors) and Sgt Lufuno Mudzuli, who was the guest speaker at the event.

“This project is close to my heart because while growing up in a vulnerable family, my school shoes were not in a good condition,” said Lepele.

The pastor said the church’s aim is to see children going to school with proper and quality school shoes.

Next year he said they hope to distribute 200 school shoes to children in Windmill Park and Ramaphosa informal settlement.

One of the beneficiaries’ mother, Sandiswa Mpukane, expressed gratitude for the school shoes.

Meanwhile, the soup kitchen will operate at the church every Wednesday morning.
