A handful of Beyerspark community members took it upon themselves to repair potholes in the vicinity of Palmiet Close on February 19.
The residents worked around the clock and managed to fill more than 25 potholes by using their tools and tar sponsored by an anonymous donor.
According to one of the organisers, Hansie Myburgh, they just want to improve the community’s infrastructure.
“Potholes in the community are a big problem and we wanted to help. The potholes are damaging residents’ vehicles, and something had to be done. The holes have been here for years now, and they are now worse due to the heavy rainfall we had recently. It’s also not helping that there has been an increase in heavy vehicles using the road.
“We’re tired of holes in the street. It doesn’t seem like the City of Ekurhuleni has the resources to fix it timeously. There are about 45 potholes in the street and we covered more than 25 of them,” Myburgh explained.
Several motorists expressed their gratitude to the residents who were fixing the potholes as they drove past them.
Furthermore, Myburgh thanked volunteers such as Allen Mee, Shane Luttig and their sons for helping to repair the giant holes.
“I would like to thank everybody who assisted in any way. It’s much appreciated,” he added.
He also highlighted they need tar and volunteers as they are planning to repair more potholes in Beyerspark.
