Rape accused remains in custody

The case was remanded to March 9 for further investigations

A 33-year-old man accused of raping a 14-year-old girl from Ramaphosa informal settlement on New Year’s Day made an appearance in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on January 26.

The case was remanded to March 9 for further investigations and the accused, who has pleaded not guilty, was remanded in custody.

The man, who is known to the family, allegedly sent the teen to the shop at around 5pm to buy airtime, but she never returned home.

At around midnight, she was allegedly found at the suspect’s house, crying.

During the suspect’s second court appearance on January 15, about 50 residents from Ramaphosa informal settlement protested outside the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court to show support to the family.
