Community members pray for patients and health-care workers outside Sunward Park Hospital

“Let’s pray for Sunward Park Hospital and the rest of the country. The patients, doctors and staff need our prayers.”
These are the words of Antjie Fourie, who initiated a prayer session outside Sunward Park Hospital on January 10 in support of health-care workers and Covid-19 patients.
At 5pm, community members formed a prayer chain around the hospital while observing all Covid-19 protocols. Some residents also tied ribbons to the fence of the hospital.
Representatives from AfriForum Boksburg, EMS Chaplaincy and security companies such as Makopano Risk Solutions and Graphite Security joined the initiative.
The hospital’s frontline workers appreciated the gesture and looked out the windows to watch people pray for them.

Fourie, an accountant at Sunward Park Hospital, said she wanted to do something to show health-care workers that they are appreciated.
“I just thought that holding a prayer session outside the hospital will help to cheer up the health-care workers,” she pointed out.
The accountant said she is overwhelmed by the way the community came together to pray for the frontline workers.
“I posted the message about the prayer on the hospital’s group on Saturday. I expected a few administrative staff members who are off duty would come to join the prayer; however, other residents also wanted to pray for them,” she added.
Furthermore, she urged the public to adhere to all the Covid-19 regulations.
Hanelie Storbeck from Parkrand explained she decided to join the prayer after she received a message about the initiative on a social media platform.
“I’m here to pray for health-care workers who have been working on the frontline to take care of us. Those who pray shall receive,” she said.
