Flying Squad makes five arrests in Boksburg

None of the firearms were licenced and the shotgun was reported as stolen in a housebreaking in Potchefstroom

Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) officers recently arrested five suspects and recovered four unlicenced firearms and ammunition in Boksburg.

“Officers were patrolling on the N12 highway, direction Johannesburg, when they noticed a suspicious-looking white Toyota Etios with five occupants,” said BFS WO Grant Giblin.

“Just after the Rondebult off-ramp they pulled the vehicle over and a thorough search was conducted. The search led to the recovery of a .38 revolver, a 9mm pistol, an AK-47 rifle and a Protecta shotgun hidden in the vehicle with a total of 29 live rounds of ammunition.

“None of these firearms were licenced and the shotgun was reported as stolen in a housebreaking in Potchefstroom during 2017. All five occupants were immediately arrested and the vehicle impounded.”

Giblin said the officers are commended for their vigilance and efforts in confronting potentially dangerous suspects.

The suspects were arrested under the charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
