Feeding scheme continues its good work but needs help

Demand for assistance has increased and the scheme needs support to continue its work

The Boksburg North Feeding Scheme recently held a special Christmas lunch in Cason Road for underprivileged people in the community.

According to Karin van der Merwe, one of the volunteers, the event was a great success due to all the sponsors who joined them in helping those in need.

“About 80 children and 150 adults enjoyed food, cold drinks and dessert at the party. We also had a short service where we read the Bible and prayed.

“We would like to thank the Boksburg Feeding Scheme group, Rysky Foundation, Kief Models PTA, Compro Auto Electrical, Raphael and Celestine and Kickboxing Club PTA for making it possible,” she said.

All Covid-19 regulations were adhered to.

On Fridays from 5pm, a group of people from the feeding scheme feeds and assists numerous homeless and underprivileged people in the parking area opposite Shoprite in Cason Road.

“This non-profitable organisation is a breakaway from the Brakpan branch,” explained Karin. “Due to donations, we’ve always been fortunate enough to assist where needed. We assist people with necessities such as food and clothing.”

The volunteer stressed the feeding scheme relies on donations to help others.

“Times have unfortunately changed and the need for help, compassion and assistance is growing in shocking demand. The number of people we feed has increased within the last few months because of Covid-19.”

She said they are also planning to hold an Easter lunch in April.

Anybody who would like to support the feeding scheme can send an email to Annemarie at anncob50@gmail.com or Karin at karin@pqsteel.co.za.
