Parts of Boksburg were hard hit by rain on the afternoon of December 28.

In Windmill Park some families had to abandon their homes due to flooding and streets were also flooded. Resident Romano Johnson said he believed the flooding was caused by blocked stormwater drains.

“The rain came down for about 30 minutes but in just a few minutes the flooding was out of control. We need the municipality to unblock these drains so that next time there will be a free flow of water,” Johnson said.

Some streets around the Boksburg CBD and in Sunward Park and other major roads in Boksburg were also affected with a vehicle even submerged on Kingfisher Road.

In Joe Slovo informal settlement about five families were displaced when a tree fell on their shacks.

One of the affected residents, Tshepo Makobela, said they reported the matter to their ward councillor and the metro but had not received any help.
