Police catch thief red handed, recover stolen goods

Some of the arrested suspects reportedly confessed on site to the EMPD crime fighting unit squad that earlier on they robbed a spaza-shop at gunpoint in Springs area, where they helped themselves to cigarettes and cash, before fleeing the scene

Members of the EMPD’s SWAT/Intervention, K9, Compliance-Loss Control and Investigation units seized goods and arrested four suspects on December 11 for crimes ranging from theft to malicious damage to property, break-in robbery and possession of stolen goods.
The first suspect, a 38-year-old man, was caught red-handed removing electrical components from a substation in Dunswart. He was taken to Boksburg North Police Station where he was charged with break-in and malicious damage to property.
On the same day, at about 3pm, three men in their 20s driving in a charcoal VW Polo hatchback were caught along Rondebult Road with goods suspected to have been stolen in a business robbery in Springs.
“The driver skipped a red traffic light at the intersection of Rondebult and Pretoria roads before our members pulled him over and upon further investigation found a toy gun, cigarette cartons and loose 20s valued at R15 000, with R1 400 in cash,” said EMPD spokesperson, Kobeli Mokheseng.

These cigarettes were reportedly stolen during a business robbery in the Springs area.

“The trio confessed on site to the EMPD crime fighting unit squad that earlier on they robbed a spaza-shop at gunpoint in Springs area where they helped themselves to cigarettes and cash, before fleeing the scene.”
Charges of possession of suspected stolen goods, reckless and negligent driving with possession of a replica firearms believed to have been used in crime, were levelled against the three.
The detained suspects are expected to appear at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
