Learners donate much-needed items to Khayalabantwana children

Windmill Park Secondary School learners make a difference

About 14 generous learners from Windmill Park Secondary School have reached out to beneficiaries of Khayalabantwana (Home for the Children), an NPO based in Windmill Park.

They have donated clothes, blankets, dishes and toys for the drop-in centre that caters for orphaned, neglected, destitute and vulnerable children.

Speaking to the Advertiser during the handover on December 4, Windmill Park Secondary School President Thabiso Mofokeng said the learners started gathering these items from October.

“My peer Noxolo da Costa suggested that it would be nice that as a school we do something for the children of Khayalabantwana because they were in need. We then spoke to one of our educators Amos Rangatha who then assisted us to rope in more learners into this project. The learners then started bringing in their clothes and other much needed items,” Mofokeng said.

Grade 12 learner da Costa said she specifically chose Khayalabantwana because of its wonderful work its doing for the disadvantaged children in Windmill Park.

Sithembiso Dlamini of Khayalabantwana expressed gratitude for the donation the drop-in centre received. He highlighted that they care for about 180 children.

“As a centre we extend our sincere gratitude to the learners for thinking about the vulnerable children of Khayalabantwana during this festive period. These clothes will assist those needy children who won’t even have the opportunity to wear Christmas clothes,” he said.
