Metro tackles problematic Windmill Park sewer line

the maintenance team discovered the cause of the blockage was as a result of foreign objects which were dumped into the sewer system

The Ekurhuleni metro is attending to the recurring sewage spill which has left Windmill Park homes surrounded by pools of sewage and threatening residents’ lives.
In our previous story, the Advertiser reported that a 71-year-old resident complained she had reported the spill in Hazelwood Avenue on numerous occasions. However, the sewer line problem remained persistent – and families in the immediate vicinity have had to endure the stench of sewage for weeks.
The City of Ekurhuleni, meanwhile, acknowledged receiving the complaint of sewer blockage from the complainant and stated the matter received prompt reaction from the Department of Water and Sanitation.
According to metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe, the maintenance team discovered the cause of the blockage was as a result of foreign objects which were dumped into the sewer system.
“The first complaint was reported on October 22 and the sewer maintenance team was dispatched to clear the blockage and the sewer blockage reoccurred on October 28. It was again cleared on October 28. The sewer team was also dispatched again on November 19 and they managed to clear the blockage with the high pressure machine.”
Gadebe mentioned the depot will conduct a CCTV camera inspection to check the condition of the sewer line, and sweep all the problematic line around the area to prevent or remove sediment that may cause blockages in future.
