Eight-year-old boy is still admitted in hospital

Two weeks ago the eight-year-old boy suffered breathing problems while at Tambo Memorial Hospital

It’s now two months since the eight-year-old boy, who managed to escape during a shack fire which killed his two sisters in Ramaphosa on August 22, is still admitted at Tambo Memorial Hospital for burnt wounds.

The three young children were left at home alone all night while the mother was allegedly in a shebeen.

The 30-year-old mother electrocuted herself after being called to the scene.

The deceased children, Akhona and Angie, and their pregnant mother were transported on September 2 to Pietermaritzburg, where they were buried on September 3 at the mother’s family home.

Speaking to the Advertiser last week, the eight-year-old’s uncle, Mzikayfani Ngidi, confirmed to the Advertiser that his nephew was still in hospital.

According to Ngidi, nurses at Tambo Memorial Hospital phoned him two weeks ago letting him know that his nephew had breathing problems.

“They told me that due to his condition they will take him to another hospital where he can be treated. I never heard anything from them again but I was intending to phone them month end and find out if he is okay,” he said.

Ngidi mentioned that he last saw his nephew on August 30 when he and another uncle went to see him in hospital during their preparations to bury his mother and two sisters.

Meanwhile, he has told the Advertiser that once his nephew has fully recovered, he will be transported to Pietermaritzburg where he and his family will take care of the child as they are his only family.
