Council held an extraordinary sitting on October 21 and declared a civic funeral will be held for Ward 43 councillor Bruce Reid.
This is in line with council’s funeral policy.
The City of Ekurhuleni pointed out that Reid was due to receive his aldermanship, which will now be bestowed posthumously.
The details of Reid’s memorial and funeral service are yet to be released by the metro.
“It is with great sadness that the City of Ekurhuleni council announces the passing of the councillor for Ward 43, Clr Bruce Reid of the DA.
“His presence will be missed in council as he was known for being vocal and impassioned when speaking on issues close to his heart.
“Heartfelt condolences to the Reid family, friends and the DA caucus during this trying time,” said the City of Ekurhuleni Legislature in a statement.
Reid served council since 2011 and was an active member of the Rules Standing Committee and served on the Finance Oversight Committee, where he was the DA’s Shadow MMC.
Reid died on October 20.
