Atlasville couple celebrates 50th anniversary

The couple said the recipe for a good marriage is communication

Barbara (69) and Peter (71) Robinson from Atlasville are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on October 24.

They met in England while they were still children. Their relationship started to blossom when Barbara was 17 and Peter 19. They tied the knot at St Paul’s Church in 1970.

“She is my soulmate,” Peter said.

They immigrated to South Africa in December 1980.

Peter was the owner of an electrical company, and Barbara was one of his employees.

According to the happy couple, the best thing that came out of their marriage is their two children and now five grandchildren.

They said the recipe for a good marriage is communication and always being there for each other through good times and bad, as the good times always outweigh the bad.

“They started from scratch when they moved to South Africa. All they had was each other, but their love and trust for one another got them through it. My parents are an inspiration to my sister and I,” said their daughter, Zoe Gerhardt.
