Forum hosts crime awareness campaign

The forum was established in February with the aim to raise and highlight issues faced by the youth

The Villa Liza Youth Development Forum (VLYDF) held a crime campaign on September 26 to raise awareness.
The campaign was held at the Villa Liza community office.

Despite the disappointing turnout of community members not pitching up for the campaign, the event continued.

The event was aimed at promoting safety and teaching the community about how they can play a role in their safety and those around them.

Muziwandile Hlatswayo, the chairperson of the VLYDF, said due to the skyrocket number of crimes such as robbery and gender-based violence committed in the area, they saw it best to mobilise the community and raise awareness about these crimes to prevent the increase of victims.

“We invited the Dawn Park police, the councillor and local pastors to pray for divine intervention,” Hlatswayo said.

Hlatswayo added that they were planning to submit a memorandum at the Dawn Park SAPS to call for action from the police to help reduce criminal activities in Villa Liza.

The VLYDF, which functions as an NPO, was established in February with the aim to raise and highlight issues faced by the youth.
