Dawn Park cash-in-transit heist suspects to appear in court next week

It is believed several other suspects are still at large

The two suspected cash-in-transit robbers who survived while five others were shot dead following a shoot-out with the police in Klippoortjie on September 23, are expected to make their second court appearance on Friday, October 9.

The pair appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on September 25 where the matter was postponed for further investigations by the Hawks.

A 54-year-old man who worked as a reservist at the Elsburg Police Station and another suspect are facing charges of armed robbery, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms and murder.

The shoot-out, which took place at a residential property in Carol Avenue, came after the suspects allegedly robbed a G4S cash van on September 23, while travelling along Galahad Street near Dawn Park Shopping Centre. An undisclosed amount of money was taken during the attack.

At the scene, officers recovered three vehicles which are suspected to have been hijacked in Springs, Midrand and Boksburg North, respectively. Four unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as some of the stolen money were recovered.
