Five suspected cash-in-transit robbers were killed and two others arrested in a shoot-out with police in Klippoortjie yesterday (September 23).
The suspects were killed at a house in Carol Avenue following a morning cash heist along Galahad Street, near the Dawn Park Shopping Centre.
Police Minister Bheki Cele confirmed the deadly shooting during a press briefing at the scene, adding that two additional suspected robbers had been arrested, and it’s believed that three others got away when the officers arrived.
Information gathered indicates that a tip-off regarding the robbery led police officers to the residential property in Carol Avenue.
Upon arrival at the house, a shoot-out ensued between the suspects and the police.
Police reportedly retrieved some of the stolen CIT money and confiscated unlicenced firearms and ammunition on the scene, as well as three suspected stolen vehicles.
Minister Cele urged members of the public to continue sharing crucial information with the police, as this will help rid their communities of criminals.
