Woodlands celebrate Spring Day with messages of hope

Some of the messages read: “Let your smile change the world”, “be happy” and “love yourself”.

Inclement weather didn’t prevent Woodlands International College from celebrating Spring Day this year.

In a year that was filled with uncertainty, the college decided to spread positivity by tying white cloths (with messages of hope on it) to palm trees at the school.

According to Marina de Vos, educator at Woodlands, in many cultures of the near East and North America, a palm tree is the symbol of hope and victory.

“So we thought on Spring Day, students could tie a white cloth around palm trees after having written down one thing that brought them peace in this trying year. The learners really enjoyed the day,” de Vos explained.

She said the idea of this year’s spring celebration is the brainchild of her colleague, Michael dos Santos.

Some of the messages include: “Let your smile change the world”, “be happy” and “love yourself”.
