Help keep Post a Can/Sandwich initiative going strong

Since they started the initiative last month, it has supported various charity organisations, including Chubby Chums and Kuselo Child and Youth Care Services

The Post a Can/Sandwich initiative is in need of the community’s support to make an even bigger impact in the community.

One of the organisers, Natalina da Conceicao, explained that a group of friends initiated the project in order to assist charity organisations during the pandemic by collecting non-perishable foods. The organiser said the group will collect donations at Superspar, in Rietfontein Road, every Saturday between 10am and noon.

Community members can place contributions in the form of non-perishable food, packets of soup and sandwiches with a spread (placed in a bag) inside a red Post a Can bin.

Since they started the initiative in July, they assisted charity organisations such as Chubby Chums, Kuselo Child and Youth Care Services, St Francis Care Centre, Kids Haven and Urban Ruins.

“On  August 1 we collected items for a soup kitchen and a special baby products drive for El Shamma Home, which looks after abandoned babies,” da Conceicao explained.

Natalina thanked the community for helping them to make a success of the project.

“We’re just the middle man. This is all thanks to the Boksburg community that have such giving hearts week after week,” she pointed out.
