Tambo Babies Jars of Hope going strong

Tambo Babies would appreciate contributions in the form of non-perishable foods, nappies, blankets and toiletries

Jars of Hope initiative has already fed thousands of people in Boksburg and the project is still going from strength to strength.

Tina Moolman, from the NPO, explained that they are still distributing coffee jars and sandwich bags filled with a cup of rice, soup mix, lentils, two unwrapped stock cubes and two packets of soup powder among the needy.

A filled coffee jar will feed eight people, and a sandwich bag will feed four people.

Tina said they were grateful that they were able to distribute 1011 sandwich bags and 225 jars among the needy people in Boksburg.

“I saw a post on Facebook indicating you can feed several people if you add the contents to boiling water and cook it for 45 minutes. I think it’s a brilliant idea. The contents are affordable, and it’s a healthy, sustainable meal. All you need is water and some form of heat. You can even cook the meal over a fire. We tasted the recipe ourselves, and it really is delicious. The recipe is easy to make, and it’s filling.

“People are really suffering during lockdown, and it’s getting worse by the day. Many people lost their jobs. We have to do something to assist them,” said Moolman.

She highlighted that they would appreciate it if the public can donate coffee jars, sandwich bags or ingredients. Moolman also encouraged the public to drive around with a filled jar to give it away if they see somebody in need of food.

Tina expressed her gratitude towards the community for supporting the initiative. “I’m really impressed with the support we received,” she said.

Furthermore, Tambo Babies is in need of items such as nappies, blankets and toiletries. Anybody who would like to contribute towards the project may contact Tina on 073 345 1419.
