Manhole pup now up for adoption

The dog has since been named Phoebe and she's up for adoption

The Boksburg SPCA was recently called to rescue a dog that had fallen down an open manhole in Hospital Road.

Three officers from the SAPS Mounted Horse Unit discovered the dog while on patrol.

According to SPCA manager Vicky Finnemore, SPCA officials were challenged with the daunting task of climbing into the manhole, catching and pulling the terrified dachshund-cross breed out.

She was eventually hoisted up through plenty of grime and cobwebs and into the sunlight.

“Our girl is now recovering nicely from her ordeal and can be visited at the Boksburg SPCA.

“We are very proud of our team on another successful rescue,” Finnemore said.

The Boksburg SPCA has named the dog Phoebe. “Phoebe is gaining confidence every day and is now more comfortable with being around humans following her traumatic ordeal,” Finnemore said.

Anyone with information about how the dog ended up in the manhole, should contact the SPCA on 011 916 5906.
