Criminals target homes, businesses in Boksburg

Headaches for Boksburg residents as criminals continue to target and invade their properties.

Below are some of the serious crime recently reported to the Boksburg police:

Burgled properties

A resident of Villa Luciana, a residential estate in Sunward Park, woke up at about 7am to discover thieves had forced their way into his house and stole valuable items during the night. The criminals forcefully opened one of the windows to gain entry. The stolen items included a laptop, Samsung cellphone, Samsung tablet, two other tablets and a cellphone.

In the same residential estate, thieves also struck another home where they forced a window open to enter the house and stole two cellphones. The victim told police they went to sleep at about 11pm on July 8 and discovered their home had been targeted when they woke up at about 7am the following day.

In Parkrand, thieves forced their way into a house in Piazza del Campo Estate and stole valuable items while the victim was asleep on July 11. They removed one of the windows to gain entry and stole a TV set, DVD player, duvet cover, speakers, a kettle, groceries and a radio receiver.

In the Boksburg CBD, criminals forced open the door of a business and stole a computer and other electric equipment sometime between 4.30pm and 9pm on July 11. Also in the CBD, thieves forced their way into a business on Commissioner Street and stole a monitor, drill machine, a TV set, Wi-Fi router, kettle and a Chana bakkie sometimes between 3pm on July 11 and 5.30am on July 13. The thieves gained entry through the ceiling.

On July 11, a Libradene man left his home on Shaw Street to visit his mother at about 5pm, but when he returned home the following morning he discovered thieves removed one of the windows and stole a TV set, perfume and jewellery.

Stolen cars

A Cinderella resident’s car, a City Golf, was stolen while parked at his home on Killian Avenue on July 12. The complainant told police he parked the vehicle in the yard at about 3pm, but when he went to the parking area at about 5pm the car was nowhere to be found.

Police are also investigating an attempted theft of vehicle case after thieves forced open the door of a VW Polo and tampered with the ignition and the fuse box on July 9. The victim told police he parked his car outside a property on North Avenue in Plantation. He went inside the building before he was later called by the security to tell him there was something amiss about his car. That’s when he discovered thieves had tried to start it, but failed.

Another vehicle, a white Colt bakkie, was stolen from the Boksburg Civic Centre’s parking lot on July 10. The victim parked his vehicle at 11am and went into the municipal offices to pay his water bill, but when he returned to the spot about an hour and a half later, the vehicle was gone.

Unroadworthy taxi impounded, driver arrested

A taxi driver was arrested and detained at the Boksburg Police Station for trying to drive away from officers who were impounding his unroadworthy minibus taxi on July 9. After discovering the vehicle was not roadworthy, officers directed the driver to follow them to the pound as they were impounding his taxi. Along the way, the driver reportedly made a U-turn and tried to evade the police, but they gave chase and managed to catch him.
