Help the St Francis Care Centre on Mandela Day

Open your heart to children and patients at the St Francis Care Centre on Mandela Day.

The public is invited to commemorate Nelson Mandela Day from July 13 until July 18 by helping children and patients at the St Francis Care Centre.

As we celebrate the 10 years of Mandela Day, St Francis marks this anniversary with a shift in approach due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

James Matli, fundraiser of the care centre, explained they won’t be any activities taking place this year, however, the community are urged to bring donations to St Francis for their 67-minute act of kindness.

The organisation is in need of necessities, such as hand sanitiser (any size), non-perishable food, washing powder, refuse bags, nappies clothing and winter essentials.

“It would be wonderful if somebody could donate 67 bags of nappies. We’re disappointed that we’re unable to do activities with children this year but we’re trying our best under these circumstances. Unfortunately, donors won’t be allowed to interact or come near the children, but we’ll still give them a tour through the centre. The children will at least be able to sing for the donors from a distance,” explained Matli.

Matli pointed out that St Francis Care Centre is taking all the necessary precautions to curb the spread of the virus, adding they don’t have any record of Covid-19 at the centre. He stressed the amount of donations for the centre significantly declined due to the virus; hence, they’re urgently in need of donations.

Matli expressed his gratitude towards everybody who showed their support towards the centre thus far. “We know this is a challenging time for everybody and we really appreciate their contributions,” he said.
