Hammer victim recovering well at home

The incident happened along Pretoria Road at 7.45am

A 52-year-old employer who was hit on the head on June 9 with a claw hammer while he was driving after having an argument with his employee over the employee’s pay, is recovery well at home.

The 32-year-old employee, who has since been arrested, alleged to have been working for the victim since 2012 and every time he had to pay him they ended up arguing.

The incident happened on June 9 along Pretoria Road at 7.45am. According to the witness, who is an EMPD warden, she was driving to work when she saw a white Ford vehicle driving in the opposite direction into oncoming traffic.

Boksburg North police spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube said on closer observation she noticed a passenger in the backseat hitting the driver with something that looked like a hammer. The driver subsequently lost control of the vehicle but it managed to stop without causing an accident.

The suspect told police on that day he got agitated and hit his employer with a claw hammer, which they use in their line of work.

According to a reliable source, who wished to remain anonymous, the 52-year-old victim was recently discharged from hospital and is recovering at his Germiston home.

“He is receiving counselling, but he is still experiencing a lot of pain and discomfort. His recovery is hampered by excessive pain,” the source revealed.

Boksburg North police spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube said the suspect was denied bail in June and is still in custody.

He will again appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on July 15.

The suspect was charged with attempted murder and the claw hammer was confiscated and will be used as evidence in court.
