Boksburg court staff test positive for Covid-19

Staff members who had contact with the infected persons are self-isolating.

According to information gathered by the Advertiser, an undisclosed number of employees at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court have tested positive for Covid-19.

Although the information available remains sketchy, information obtained through a well-placed source indicates that the infected court officials recently notified management that they had tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

As a result of that, management reportedly notified officials who had direct contact with the infected staff members and directed them to self-quarantine.

The Department of Justice has not yet responded to our list of questions sent via email. This publication visited the facility on July 13, and found that it was operational.

The court manager declined to share any information on what was really going on inside the facility, as she was not authorised to speak to the media. She, however, acknowledged receiving our media inquiry sent to the spokesperson for the Ministry for Justice and Correctional Services, and said we will receive the department’s comment only through the official spokesperson.

It’s unclear as to when the affected employees will return to work. And it’s not yet confirmed if the said employee’s workspace and all common areas have already been decontaminated and deep-cleaned.

In our recent report on court directives and regulations in relation to Covid-19, the Department of Justice said its facilities across the country were following recommendations and taking all necessary precautions to protect employees, judicial partners and the public.
