Covid-19 cases force closure of Reiger Park police station

Reiger Park SAPS is the third police station in Boksburg to have to close after staff tested positive for Covid-19.

The Reiger Park police announced the closure on Friday, July 3, saying the facility was forced to close after two members of staff tested positive for coronavirus this week.

According to the Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Const Zanele Motaung, the first member received the positive results on July 1, and the other got the results on Friday July 3.

In line with the Covid-19 regulations, the facility, including the detective branch, has been temporarily closed to allow a deep-clean and decontamination to be completed, and will re-open on Tuesday July 7. For that reason, any resident who want to access the services rendered at the police station will not be able to do so.

During the temporarily closed, residents who want to access the services rendered in the Community Service Centre (CSC) are advised to go to the nearest police stations.

“The telephone lines at the police station, including the detective offices, will not be accessible for the duration of the closure. However, it is important to assure the public that service delivery, including patrols, attending to emergency services, will not be hampered,” said Motaung.

The SAPS management apologises for any inconvenience that may arise from this. Should there be any challenges, Motaung advised the public to contact the acting station commander Capt Swart on 0796946503 or the acting Vispol Head W/O Botha  on 0716756995 and the Duty Officer Sgt Mudzuli on 0798908399.

Boksburg and Dawn Park police stations were also forced to close shut when a couple of staff members tested positive for the virus.

Following the Covid-19 reports among members of staff, the stations quickly identified any other members of staff who may have been in contact and instructed them to undergo testing, and isolate for the Government’s recommended period.
