Dog tied to a pole on N3 finds her forever home

It look some time during lockdown and there were disappointments, but Honey now has a loving home

The Duffey family recently gave Honey a second chance in a loving family by adopting her from the Boksburg SPCA. She was taken to her new forever home on June 9.

Honey, a female Africanis who was so named by the SPCA staff, was rescued by the SPCA on April 21 after a concerned member of the public alerted the society about a dog barking in a veld next to the N3 highway near Vosloorus.

The society searched for the dog for an hour before eventually finding it tied to a pole on the centre island of the N3.

When Honey was found she was dehydrated and starving.

According to Boksburg SPCA manager Vicky Finnemore, Honey gained weight and confidence and as soon as the lockdown moved to level four they placed her up for adoption on their Facebook page.

“Numerous reserves fell through, but the SPCA didn’t give up on her as they continued to post her on their Facebook page,” Finnemore explained. “During her stay, she was also sent to The Doggy Parlour where she was given a make-over by Angela Brinkley.

“At the Boksburg SPCA, we often say to people that the dog will find you. We now know that Honey’ss false starts and failed reserves were because she was waiting for the amazing Duffey family, who came in and fell in love with this very special girl,” Finnemore said.

According to Finnemore, the Duffeys have since notified the society that Honey is “such a sweet honey” and has settled in very well with the whole family.

According to the Duffey family, she plays all day with their other dogs and is kind and gentle.

The Boksburg SPCA advises the public that if they are no longer able to care of their pets they shouldn’t resort to acts of cruelty – they have the option of surrendering their pets to the SPCA.
