Two Boksburg Civic Centre staff positive for Covid-19

Boksburg Clinic and Civic Centre were forced to temporarily suspend services

Staff members at the Boksburg Civic Centre and the clinic have tested positive for Covid-19, prompting the metro to disinfect and deep-clean the facility, including the customer care offices on the ground floor.

The metro has not yet replied to our email requesting information on the matter, but residents told this publication they were on June 25 unable to access services in the ground floor offices as they were temporarily closed.

A team from a company called Scientology was on June 25 spotted disinfecting and cleaning the entire ground floor, including the section where customers are paying rates and taxes. The word on the street was that a staff member in the section and the clinic tested positive for the virus.

Ward 32 councillor Marius de Vos said he has been inundated with complaints from frustrated residents who were complaining they were unable to receive critical services in the customer care offices, including the finance department.

“I inquired about the situation and was told two staff members have tested positive for Covid-19,” said de Vos.

There was also a notice on the wall confirming that two Covid-19 cases have been identified in the Boksburg Civic Centre.

The notice reads: Please be advised that two Covid-19 positive cases have been identified in the Boksburg Civic Centre.

As a result, the following actions have been taken to ensure the safety of employees and customers:

  • The Boksburg Civic Centre building will be sanitised, in particular the ground floor.
  • All officials are requested to vacate the offices and will be expected back to work after two hours after the sanitisation.
  • The finance section will also be closed during the sanitisation for two hours and then become operational to receive customers paying for their services.
  • The clinic has also been closed for sanitisation, and testing of clinic staff is underway.
  • The services will resume tomorrow morning (June 26).
  • We plead for your cooperation during this important operation and wish affected employees well.
