Covid-19 hits Freeway Park Primary School

Learners were advised not to come to school on June 15 until the school is deep cleaned and disinfected.

Grade Seven learners at Freeway Park Primary School have been asked to stay at home for 14 days after one of the staff members tested positive for Covid-19.

According to a letter, seen by the Advertiser, one of the staff members tested positive for Covid-19 on June 14.

The letter further stated that the situation was under control and the school has been in contact with the IDSO, GDE and the Department of Health.

A parent of a Grade Seven learner who wished to remain anonymous, told the Advertiser that the school notified them on June 14 about the Covid-19 case. The parent raised concerns that the case at the school might have a negative psychological effect on her child when they reopen.

This is the second school in Boksburg that the Advertiser is aware of which had to cease teaching and learning after reopening on June 8 following the national lockdown which was instituted on March 27.

No comment received from the school at the the time of going to press.
