Donate a winter clothing item, food to Round Table Winter Knights

The service organisation is relying on the generosity and support of individuals more than ever due to the challenges of lockdown

The Winter Knights of Round Table 17 Boksburg are gearing up once again to bring warmth to thousands of unprivileged people in the community.

Jean-Claude Duarte, chairperson of the local Table, explained that Winter Knights is a home-grown and hands-on Round Table SA project that encompasses a campaign in aid of the less fortunate during winter by collecting blankets, clothing and non-perishable food.

“Our annual Winter Knights project has successfully seen the collection and distribution of blankets, warm clothing and food to thousands of people each year. This project goes beyond provisions by bringing hope to people in need. The need is big and we’re just trying to help where we can,” he explained.

The local Table started to collect winter essentials a few weeks ago and managed to distribute over R70 000 worth of blankets and clothing.

“The support has been phenomenal and we’re extremely grateful for this, especially now that we’re facing a few challenges this year due to the lockdown. We couldn’t involve or challenge schools to do blanket drives as usual because schools are still closed for the majority of learners. Several businesses are also still closed or they simply don’t have the funds to assist us. “Therefore, we’re now relying on the kindness and generosity of individuals more than ever before.”

Duarte highlighted that they are still in need of any items that can help people overcome the brink of the biting cold, such as beanies, scarves, blankets and non-perishable foods.

Donations can be dropped off at the clubhouse, at 32 Lancaster Road, between 8am and 5pm or Tablers will collect.

He expressed his gratitude towards those who contributed towards the project and said the Table couldn’t have done it without their support.
