Reiger Park community garden needs netting to keep it going

The vegetable garden in Reiger Park feeds hundreds of families, including children from underprivileged families in the township

The hard-working team of volunteers at the Reiger Park Crisis Centre’s community vegetable garden need your help to protect their vegetables against the cold nights and birds destroying their crops.

According to one of the gardeners, Harry Jacobs, they have been struggling to keep birds away from their vegetables and are now looking for the public’s help to address the menace by securing more nets to protect the vegetables.

“The birds are wreaking havoc on the vegetables and that has also prevented us from planting enough to feed our hungry community. I’m appealing to anyone who can help us with nets to keep the birds away and also protect the vegetables from the cold,” Jacobs pleaded.

To lend a helping hand, visit the centre at 381 Goedehoop Street, Reiger Park, or call 072 127 9090.

Apart from providing the community with the needed nutrients, the garden also helps to raise funds for the centre.
