Trip to cellphone shop ends in rape

The woman left the store when an unknown man asked whether she was selling her cellphone

A visit to a cellphone shop in Boksburg North turned into a nightmare for an 18-year-old woman on May 30. According to Boksburg North police spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube, the teenager told the police that she went to a cellphone shop in Boksburg to have her phone fixed.

“The woman said when she got there, she found someone fixing another customer’s phone. She further stated that while she was standing at the counter, a man came in and asked her if she was selling her cellphone,” he said.

Ramaube said the woman responded and said she wasn’t selling the phone and subsequently left the shop.

“The woman alleged that the man followed her outside and then pushed her hard and she fell on the ground behind a truck. The man then allegedly undressed her and raped her. The woman told the police that she doesn’t know this man,” Ramaube said.

A case of rape was opened at the Boksburg North Police Station and investigations into the matter are underway.
