Laerskool Westwood eager to get children back in the classroom

We know that they've already packed their school bags and that they were so excited to see their friends again

As per a final directive received from the Department of Basic Education on Sunday night, Laerskool Westwood’s learners will only return to school on June 8.

According to Annelle Myburgh, head of marketing, the school was disappointed with the department’s announcement.

“Our hearts go out to the learners and their parents. We know that they’ve already packed their school bags and that they were so excited to see their friends again. Parents who are working at this stage were also forced to make alternative arrangements with their children,” Myburgh pointed out.

She further assured the Advertiser that Westwood was ready and couldn’t wait to welcome children back to school this week.

“The safety of our parents and teachers is important to us and we’re doing everything in our power to protect them against the virus. The premises was recently deep cleaned and the school had enough personal protective equipment for the teachers to report for duty last week. Westwood also strategically installed sanitising stations throughout the school. As the learners arrive at reception, their temperatures will be taken biometrically or with a hand-held thermometer and their hands will be sanitised. Then they will hand in a questionnaire that is signed by a parent.”

Once everything is done and correct, the child must indicate a thumbs up and the parent may leave.

“No person will be allowed at school without a mask and everybody will have to adhere to social distancing protocols. We painted blocks 1.5 metre apart, where children will be able to rest during the break,” she continued.

Furthermore, the hall and classes in use will also be deep cleansed daily.
