Community’s support needed to help the needy

The main objective of their initiative is to support the frail, elderly and deprived who are struggling to make ends meet during the lockdown.

Kuselo Child and Youth Care Services, Legendary Guardians Exclusive Protection and Ward 22 Clr Ruhan Robinson are providing nutritious meals to the needy in Boksburg as part of The Forgotten upliftment programme.

On April 8, approximately 700 people received food in the form of maize meal, muffins and sandwiches and a fruit in Reiger Park, Cason Road, Blue Sky, where the people are known as “bosmense”(bush people), Andries Scribante Haven, a caravan park and an informal settlement in Beyers Park.

The volunteers also sanitised each person’s hand with a potent santiser before they handed out the food.

While people were waiting for their delicious meal, Pastor Jaco van Vuuren of the Enoch Family Church spoke to them about the word of God and warned that them that they must not forget about Him once the pandemic is over.

Furthermore, they donated dog food to the furry friends at the informal settlements and PawsRehoming.

Clinton Festraets and Amanda Coetzee, organisers of the initiative explained they are determined to feed these people every day.

“We’re targeting people who are incapable or too vulnerable to go to shops, those who people that others forget about,” the founder of Kuselo.

Ruhan, Amanda and Clinton explained they can’t assist these people without the community’s support and expressed their gratitude to those who are assisting them.

“We would like to thank AAA Alarms, Graphite Security, X-Factor Signs, Turn & Tender Boksburg, Pro-fix Maintenance and Alterations, Hydraline Hydraulic Services, Hansie Myburgh Photography, Sam’s Curry Cave, EMS Chaplaincy and Trauma Support, Spar Jansen Park, Reiger Park Pick n Pay P, Stevies Buchery in Reiger Park and all other volunteers such as Brenden, Caeleigh and Austin Leigh Mackintosh,” said Clinton.

The ward councillor emphasized that it was amazing to see how many people jumped in to help.
