Get to know the new chairperson for Round Table Boksburg

Jean Claude Duarte will be taking over the reins as the new chairperson of Round Table Boksburg 17.

The 35-year- old was born and raised in Boksburg, attended Parkdene Primary and CBC. He is married to his best friend, Morgan, and he is a father of Millie-Jane and Jaxon.

The Advertiser found out more about the new chairperson.

Q: How long have you been part of Round Table and what made you stay?

A: I have now been part of Round Table for four years. What motivates me to stay in this organisation is how much incredible work we do for our communities.

Q: How do you feel about being inducted as the new chairperson?

A: I am extremely excited about this new opportunity and it is always an honour to become chairperson of a Round Table with such a great history of community service.

Q: What is your favourite memory of being part of the organisation?

A: This is a tough question as the memories keep piling up and I’m certain with a few more years left I will have many more favourites; however, my favourite memory would have to be my induction into the greatest Table of the greatest men’s organisation in the world.

Q: Do you have any new projects in mind for the organisation?

A: We do have two new projects in planning phase at the moment and we can’t wait to share it with you once they are finalised. For now, our focus is on the annual Winter Knights project. And during these trying times, helping those less fortunate could save a life.

Q: The highs and lows of your time at Round Table so far?

A: My highs would be being asked to serve on the Gauteng area executive, planning and organising the annual Kids Christmas Party, serving as chairperson for the greatest Table in the world and being part in over 100 community service projects. The only low that I can call as such is not being able to frequently travel within the Tabling world and that I only have a few years left in this wonderful organisation.

Q; What project from Round Table is close to your heart and why?

A: Winter Knights project has to be the one. It’s a wonderful initiative where we ask for donations of blankets and canned food. These items are then distributed to the destitute, children’s and old aged homes so that the terrible winter is a little more bearable. One blanket can change a life.

Q: What challenges do think you will face as the chairperson?

A: There is a multitude of challenges facing the chairperson of any charitable organisation. Many organisations share the same challenges as well. For us, a challenge is looking after our clubhouse as the funds we raise go to charities. We do not like taking admin cuts on donations we receive.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

To always try leave things in a better place than when I found them, to develop fellowship and grow a strong Table and to make our community better.

Q: Do you have any advice for a person with a busy schedule that would like to give back to the community?

A: You may feel that you are too busy or do not have the time to contribute and give back to your community. Everyone has the exact same amount of time available, it is how we choose to spend that time that matters. Whether you can contribute R10 or R1 000, 10 minutes or 10 hours, every single contribution assists and can sometimes even change a life for the better. Never feel like you can’t make a difference.

Q: Can you give us five interesting facts about yourself?

I am the first generation South African, born in Boksburg. Both my parents are from Portugal. I have a French name. I studied wine, alcohol and sushi and have a passion for public speaking and the community.

A: Is there anything you would like to add that you feel is important?

I believe that Boksburg has always been a very caring, loving and giving community. With the right guidance and energy, I have seen many events become great successes. Please get involved in your community and let our community organisations get in touch with one another. Together we can make a difference.
