Boksburg residents have adjusted to the lockdown

It’s day 19 of the lockdown and it seems people in Boksburg have adjusted to the reality.

President Cyril Ramaphosa recently announced the extension of the national lockdown until end of the month, as part of the government’s efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The Advertiser visited some parts of Boksburg to check if people where adhering to the lockdown regulations.

On April 14 at the Boksburg CBD, particularly Commissioner Street, which is the busiest street known for its business hub, that whole street was a bit quiet.

There were only a few shoppers who were heading to the local supermarket and to the bank.

In Market Street, a group of people were seen queuing at an ATM and others where going to the pharmacy.

However, in Windmill Park, it was business as usual for most of the people there.

People were spotted in their street pavements having a chat with their friends, while children played indigenous games on the streets. Others were seen in large groups, sitting inside their yards.

Youngsters were also seen outside various informal traders’ shops.

One of the young people, Lucky Dladla, said the reason he was standing outside the shop was that he was waiting for his brother who was coming from the mall in order to assist him carry the grocery.

Another resident, Lwandile Tshangana, said he came to the shop to buy bread.

Meanwhile, in Villa Liza and Dawn Park, residents adhered to the lockdown rules by staying at home. The streets were empty, with only a few people spotted holding grocery bags who were coming from the Dawn Park shopping centre.

Police vehicles were also spotted in Villa Liza and Dawn Park.
