Thugs cut their way into butchery through its roof

A Witfield businessman was forced to temporarily suspend operations at his butchery on Main Street after thugs broke into his business twice during the first day of the Covid-19 lockdown.

The butchery owner, Edward Abarca, who was devastated by the break-in and loss of property, told the Advertiser the thieves cut open a section of the roof of the butchery and lowered themselves to the floor, as the country entered lockdown at midnight.

They then stole three tills containing small amounts of coins, a printer and the DVR of the CCTV cameras installed in the building.

Perhaps after discovering that there was only a few coins in the tills, the criminals reportedly came back at about 5am to ransack the property, apparently searching for the money, but left without money.

“I reported the incident to the police and they are investigating. But because of the break-in, our butchery will remain closed today (March 28),” said Abarca.
