Classes at Creative Art Centre to continue to keep Barry’s legacy alive

After the 21-day lockdown, Werner will lead the classes, following Barry's death on March 8.

To keep the legacy of the well-known artist, Barry de Villiers, alive doors of the Creative Art Centre will remain open and classes will continue as per usual.

The centre is situated at 44 Market Street and was started by Barry and his nephew, Werner Hendriks. The centre offers professional painting classes on Mondays and Tuesdays, from 9am to 12 noon.

Werner, who is also an award-winning artist explained that his uncle was his mentor and taught him everything he knows about art.

“My uncle is dearly missed at the centre; however, we decided that the doors of the centre will remain open as we want to keep his memory alive. The centre is a special place.

“We are like a family here. Barry made the classes interesting and he did more than just teach, he enriched people’s lives,” said Werner.

Werner said he has a few ideas for the centre that he wishes to implement in the future.

“We’re looking at the possibility to offer classes every day of the week, instead of just Monday and Tuesday. Furthermore, we are planning a Monet exhibition that will take place at the centre and a potential workshop for school learners during the June/July holidays.

“We are also looking at offering more abstract classes,” he explained.

At the centre, you can expect to get your creative juices flowing by painting, chatting and listening to good music.

Werner also emphasised that art experience is needed to join the classes.

Anyone interested in joining the classes may contact Werner on 082 772 3253 for more information.
