A change of guard in the Advertiser’s newsroom

Lana O'Neill will continue to also be the editor of the Benoni City Times.

As of March 30, the Boksburg Advertiser will be run under the auspices of editor Lana O’Neill.

The current Advertiser editor, Riaan Engelbrecht, will, from April, serve as the new chief sub-editor for the Caxton East and South Division. He replaces Yaron Blecher.

Engelbrecht joined the Advertiser as editor in 2008. Fanie Mathupha will continue as the Advertiser’s news editor.

O’Neill joined Caxton in 1989 as a junior journalist, working at the Germiston City News and Boksburg Advertiser.

Through the years, she held the positions of Boksburg Advertiser editor and assistant editor and also editor of Get it East Rand.

Her most recent promotion was to editor of Benoni City Times in 2018.

O’Neill will therefore continue to be the editor of Benoni City Times, which is situated at the Caxton East Rand offices in Sydney Road, Ravenswood.

“I am honoured to be back at the helm of Boksburg Advertiser and am looking forward to reconnecting with the community.

“The Benoni City Times and Advertiser teams are dedicated professionals who I have no doubt will support me all the way in my new role as joint editor of these publications,” O’Neill said.

“I thank management for putting their faith in me and giving me another opportunity to serve the Boksburg community with pride too.”
