Metro looking to take proactive measures to curb impact of Covid-19

In Ekurhuleni there are four confirmed cases of the virus.

The Ekurhuleni metro has resolved to use the metro’s emergency fund to procure the vaccine Interferon B from Cuba and other related medicine from elsewhere that could prove to be an answer to the virus.

This is according to mayor Mzwandile Masina during his State of the City Address.

“Obviously, this is subject to the approval of the Medical Control Council, which is the relevant authority when it comes to these matters. Once approved, this medication will be administered by our trained professionals,” said Masina.

“Our health authorities are dealing with the matter.

“We remain vigilant in monitoring the situation, and we are ready to work together with national and provincial governments to combat the spread of this dreaded virus,” Masina said.

The metro recently said in their efforts to deal with any cases of the virus in its, the City has established and activated the Outbreak Team, which mainly consists of healthcare workers.

“The City of Ekurhuleni is also part of the Joint Operation Centre dealing with the outbreak consisting of officials from all spheres of government,” said metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.
