New school shoes bring hope for Reiger Park learners

One of the beneficiaries, Jayden van Rooyen, expressed his gratitude for the donation received.

The Reiger Park Primary School’s boardroom turned into a shoe store on March 4 when Given Muhlarhi arrived with boxes full of school shoes.

The Benoni businessman, whose famously known as ‘Given the Giver’, donated shoes and socks to the learners at the school.

As part of his campaign, Given the Giver School Shoes Drive, 60 learners from the school benefited from this initiative.

During the handover at the school, beneficiaries couldn’t stop smiling while they tried on their new shoes and socks. Others even threw their old torn school shoes away and proceeded to class with their brand-new kicks.

Muhlarhi said the reason he donated was that he wanted to invest in the lives of those children.

All thanks to Given Muhlarhi, known as Given the Giver, Reiger Park Primary School Grade Four learner Jayden van Rooyen was excited to own brand-new school shoes.

“Some parents can’t afford to buy their children school shoes, but because we believe that no innocent child should go to school barefoot, we decided to lend a helping hand.

“We want them to go to school with pride and self-confidence, wearing their new school shoes. We want these beneficiaries to continue studying because they are the generation who will study at the proposed university that will be built in Ekurhuleni,” Muhlarhi said.

The businessman said this year he has also donated school shoes to learners at Ekukhanyeni Primary School and Lesabe Primary School.

“I would like to thank the various business people who assisted me in buying these school shoes,” said Muhlarhi.

Reiger Park Primary principal Martin Green said: “We are very grateful for the generous donation received for our learners. This will assist them with not feel inferior due to how they look. We are happy that now they will embrace every moment spent in class to their full abilities.”

Joseph Maditjane, the school governing body (SGB) chairperson, said he hopes Muhlarhi will continue to do good wherever he goes because this makes a difference in the lives of these children.
