Major power outage hits parts of Boksburg

It’s unclear if this is a planned or unplanned power outage. It is also unclear as to when will the power be restored, and if the metro’s technicians are attending to the outages.

An unexplained major power outage has this morning left part of Boksburg without electricity, causing traffic congestion on many routes between Comet and the East Rand Mall.

Affected areas include Comet, part of Boksburg North, Ravenswood, Jansen Park, Witfield, Dayanglen, and many areas around the East Rand Mall.

The Advertiser tried to find out as to what could be the cause of the power outages, but the metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe’s phone rang unanswered. We have also sent him an email but he has not responded yet.

People took to social media to vent their frustrations, with some in Comet asking if it was load-shedding or cable theft. Others in Boksburg North said they woke up around 3am to find themselves left in the dark – adding that they contacted the call centre and the call centre agents told them that they were not aware of the problem.

Eskom reported that it does not expect to have to implement rotational load-shedding today (Monday).
