Zimbabwean killed in gun deal gone bad

Investigators discovered that the accused is in the country illegally, and he was charged accordingly.

Police in Reiger Park are investigating a case of murder after a Zimbabwean man was shot dead in an alleged gun deal gone wrong.

According to Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Const Zanele Motaung, the victim had allegedly sold a replica handgun as a real one to his fellow countryman who resides in Hillbrow.

“The 27-year-old buyer subsequently discovered that he had been deceived. He then reportedly repeatedly asked the seller of the fake gun to refund him,” said Motaung.

“After a struggle to get his money back, the buyer went to the other man’s home in Delmore Gardens, where after an argument the buyer took out a real gun and opened fire on the victim.

“The gunman took the deceased’s cellphone and fled the scene.”

An investigation into the shooting was launched and information received led the team of detectives from the Reiger Park SAPS to the alleged killer’s flat in Hillbrow.

“The suspect was found in the flat in possession of the stolen cellphone. He reportedly told the police that the firearm used in the shooting was being kept by another man in his home.

“Officers and the suspect proceeded to the said man’s home, but couldn’t find anyone home.”

The murder accused made his first court appearance in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on February 10 and is expected to return to court for a formal bail application on February 18.
