Boksburg High School to celebrate 100 years

The school was founded on February 11, 1920, as the Rand East Training and Preparatory College under its first principal, T Charter. The school officially changed its name to Boksburg High School in 1925.

Boksburg High School is celebrating its 100-year existence in 2020.

Over the years, Boksburg High has grown and developed, yet keeping true to its motto of “we can because we believe we can”.

On February 11, the school will hold its big celebrations to celebrate the significant milestone. In the morning until noon, a formal assembly will be held for the learners to kick-start the festivities.

From 12.20pm onward, former learners and teachers will gather to reminisce about old times. Tours will also be conducted through the school.

For those interested in being part of the festivities, it is necessary to book before February 5. Send an email to reza@bokhs.co.za

Another exciting development at the school is the opening of a museum on the school premises to pay tribute to 100 years of history.

The museum, which fills part of a building at the school, will include memorabilia and hundreds of photos, including a replica of the first principal’s office.

It therefore allows for a riveting walk through time, highlighting the enormous impact the school has played in Boksburg.

The museum will officially open on February 11 and arrangements can be made to take a tour.

Another initiative will be information signs that will be placed at key points throughout the school to explain the history of the school.
